Been encountering a simple word which has been giving me trouble since the first chapter, and that is: 笑. It can mean either smiling OR laughter, and sometimes it's not obvious which action it actually is.
I have just been winging it and putting smile when it doesn't seem a huge reaction is needed, and vice versa. It's interesting to me how some terms can be extremely specific in some languages and not in others, but at the same time it gives me a huge headache.

Chinese doesn't really have tenses like in English too so that's another headache for me. For now, I have been translating the chapters into past tense, with some present tense thrown in when the time frame changes. Occasionally it feels weird to translate a story in past tense but it is what it is. //shrug. (Also I'm most comfortable in writing in past tense lmao)
